In his smithy.

Gender: Male
Species: Unknown
Body type: Furred humanoid
Location: Tornoth's smithy
Player romance: Yes, female players only

Tornoth is the founder and leader of the only settlement in Sejan, Taodal. His main occupation in the village, when not being consulted about village management business, is to serve as its blacksmith and house builder. He is also the father of Shyni, although he doesn't seem to be married or in a relationship with anyone.

Personality-wise, he's known to be a bit grumpy and sometimes hot-headed, especially when it comes to protecting his daughter, but he is described to having a good heart and intentions.

Some say that he may have a weakness towards women, signified by him not being as stubborn against them as with men. His simultaneous weakness towards women and his apparent avoidance of them suggests that he might have an unfortunate history with them.

Background[edit | edit source]

SPOILER

Tornoth used to live in a species enclave with his wife Ettenea, loving each other dearly. When Shyni was born, she was very small as an infant, almost deathly so. However, she survived and didn't seem to exhibit any other abnormalities besides being smaller than an average baby.

Tornoth didn't mind Shyni's smallness, but Ettenea despised her and was disgusted by her, which was most probably an unusual psychological reaction to her dwarfism combined with the culture of a species enclave. One day, Tornoth came home and found Shyni quiet and cold. Ettenea claimed that everything was fine, but Tornoth quickly realised that she tried to starve Shyni by not feeding her. He took the baby away to a neighbour, lying to them that his wife was ill, and stayed the night there. Ettenea was unaware of this and assumed that he killed and buried Shyni when he went back to confront her in the morning. He told her that Shyni was still alive, which caused her to become enraged. She found a knife and threatened to kill Shyni while insulting and berating Tornoth for not doing so. In the heat of the moment, and to protect his daughter, he killed his wife and ran away with Shyni.

Since Shyni was still a baby and couldn't eat solid food, he kidnapped a young woman to keep Shyni alive. He kept moving until reaching Sejan, where he built the foundation for Taodal at the tip of the peninsula. After he built a pier at the shore, passers-by started to come in to trade with and settle in this fledgling settlement, and Taodal quickly expanded into a small village.

Once Shyni grew up enough to not need a wet nurse, Tornoth bought a ticket home for the kidnapped woman and gave her some money as an apology. She promised not to reveal what happened to her to anyone, for Shyni's sake. She was never heard from again, and her name, species, and current status are currently unknown.

Player interactions[edit | edit source]

The player always meets Tornoth when first trying to enter Taodal as they are taken to him for questioning. His main concerns about the player are their intentions and how they got to Sejan. After the interrogation is over, the player can visit him during the day to buy tools and supplies. If the player character is female, she can also engage in a romantic relationship with him.

Romance[edit | edit source]

The unfinished bedframe.

Female player characters can flirt with Tornoth when visiting him in his smithy. The flirt quickly turns awkward as it seems like he can't take it gracefully. The attention gets him seriously flustered, and he excuses himself, ending the encounter there.

On the player's next visit, he has pulled himself together, and he invites the player to a dinner and visit to the sauna. At the dinner, the player gets introduced to his daughter, Shyni, if they hadn't met her before. The dinner also works to prevent the female player character to romance both Tornoth and Shyni – both of them can invite the player to dinner, but the romance continues only with the character whose invitation was accepted. After the meal, Tornoth and the player go into the sauna together, relaxing and bonding with each other mentally and physically. Afterwards, the player has a night of good sleep over in Tornoth's bed with him.

When the player visits them afterwards, Tornoth can be found constructing a frame for a bigger bed, since they discovered that the previous one is a bit small for two people. When the player visits him again, he is finished building the bed. He plans to test drive it with her but not before a little boating trip to check on some fish traps. The boat trip turns out to be fishless, as the fish traps around Taodal are empty for an unknown reason. During the trip, he suggests that he could build a house for the player, if she wanted to stay in Taodal.

After the boating trip, Tornoth gives the player a key to his house so that she can visit him at any time. The two then take a bath before finally testing out the bed. On subsequent visits in the evening and at night, the player can spend more intimate time with Tornoth, in addition to learning his tragic past piece by piece during their pillow talks. He also confesses that although he talks and acts humbly about being an unofficial leader of the village, he feels like he's the right one.

Trading[edit | edit source]

When visiting him at his smithy, Tornoth sells various utility items to the player:

He buys out most of the things the player offers to him, with some exceptions:

  • He won't buy the mysterious nailed sock. He has a short dialogue with the player about its purpose and origins, however.
  • He'll return the player's underwear with "Get that off my table."
  • Sejan cave map and keys to his smithy and the sauna storage are instantly returned with no message.
  • He can refit the ancient helmet from the abandoned well to be able to be used by the player, in addition to buying it out if the player wishes to sell it.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • When playing as a female player character that engages in a relationship with Shyni, he is fully aware of the player's and his daughter's lesbian romance. However, he seems to accept this with a comment, "... I hope you'll have fun with Shyni... and treat her right." This is in contrast with romancing Shyni as a male player character which is either kept a secret to him, or he makes no comments.
  • Shyni mentions that her father once broke a sailor's arm for cat calling her.
