Creature information
Body type: Large aquatic serpentine
Dangerous: Non-lethal (first encounter),
lethal (later encounters)
Location: Sejan beach cave, Sejan beach
Has sex scenes: Yes, male players only

Caenemungs are a species of sizeable marine creatures of which there's currently only a single specimen known, which can be found residing in the Sejan beach cave. Physically, it is a huge, dark serpentine without limbs. Its head, adorned with coral-like horns or antlers, seems to have no visual or auditory organs.

The first meeting with it can be triggered when talking to Breirb and offering to help them with something. The Caenemung has been annoying the colony for some time, mostly by stealing the fish that Breirb hunt in the waters of the cave. When confronted by it, the player can try to reason with the beast, to no avail. A fight with it is mandatory to get it to leave Breirb alone.

In combat, it is recommended to bring strong equipment and to be careful with how you spend your stats on your attacks. Due to its resistances, weaker cards might not have any effect on the creature. This combined with its hitpoints and strong attacks (notably a Massive tackle) makes for a challenging fight. If the player loses, however, they will manage to flee safely away from the creature. They can then later return to the cave at any time and redo the fight, with both combatants' health restored. If the player wins, the Caenemung retreats and escapes into the sea, never to return to the cave.

Beach comeback[edit | edit source]

Locations where the Caenemung can be encountered after defeating it in the cave.

After defeating the Caenemung, it can be randomly encountered on beaches around Sejan with a 1/16 (6.25 %) chance. It lunges from the sea and attacks the player. The player has several options, with some weak stat builds leading to the player character possibly dying:

  • Run away (Agility 6)
    • If successful, the encounter ends.
    • If failed, attempt to dodge the creature (Agility 8, nonsensically)
      • If successful, the encounter ends.
      • If failed, the player dies.
    • If failed, attempt to punch the creature (Strength 8)
      • If successful, engage it in combat
      • If failed, the player dies.
  • Attack it
    • If player wins, see below.
    • If player loses, attempt to roll away from the creature (Agility 8)
      • If successful, the encounter ends.
      • If failed, the player dies.

If the player runs away, they can be attacked at any point on the beach again. In most cases, if they win, the same also happens - they can attempt to grab its tail and prevent it from escaping, but that turns out to be unsuccessful.

However, if the player has a roll of rope on them and they pass the checks of Intelligence 6, Agility 6, and Strength 10, they can quickly tie a lasso and catch the creature before pulling it to the shore. The player can then examine the Caenemung and discover that it's female. Male players can then have sex with her. The creature has three orifices, and, if the player chooses to penetrate the bottom one, there's a 33% chance at impregnating her.

In the following encounters with it, the Caenemung doesn't attack the player anymore and instead seems to be affectionate towards him. Due to how she reacts to player's speech, it's probable that she understands him, though she's not able to talk. How this ties to the concept of the Understanding is unknown.

If she has been impregnated, she starts an encounter by stopping the player before suddenly violently thrashing and convulsing in front of them. This will be followed by her laying an egg. The player can either accept the egg, destroy it or just run away after the birth. If the player doesn't destroy the egg or flee the scene, they can ask her if the egg is theirs, which will get them a nod of confirmation from the new mother. After that she will return to the sea with the egg in her mouth, perhaps to plan a family reunion sometime in the future. The player can also destroy the egg by kicking it, which will make the mother quite mad. However, she will not attack the player in retaliation even if they decide to stick around, and will instead wail mournfully and go back to the ocean, never to be seen again. If the player simply runs away right after the birth, the fate of the mother and the egg remains unknown.
