The Muds is a large area located in the west of Noih and south of Sejan, right between the gigantic unknown fungal growth and the great Wasteland to the east. As the name suggests, it's largely comprised of stinky sludge and caustic gases, which makes it difficult place to live in. The area is dangerous to the health of many species. Most people can traverse the Muds with just a rebreather, while some (like Punflen, the only encountered Mudder yet) need full body protective suits to survive the treacherous land.

The largest settlement in the Muds is Rynsu (also referred to as Mudcity) in the south that was built on top of a colossal, abandoned refinery facility of unknown origin. Repurposed storage tanks and pipework serve as the buildings of the city. Since the city is built on top of a solid foundation compared to the sludge fields themselves, it's mostly protected from the toxic mud and gases. A giant trench that has been dug through a mountain of sludge connects the settlement to the swamp.

While the Muds wasteland could seem like being just a big area of nothing, it actually hides many valuables and secrets that sometimes emerge from the sludges. As a result, there are many prospectors sifting through the toxic sludge, looking for technology and treasure to sell off back in the capital. Traversing the Muds is a dangerous task, however, due to the geoactivity that, besides uncovering valuables, also disrupts the area and is able to displace entire buildings in one fell swoop. The city also lives off mining and trading raw materials to the rest of the world.
